Howie Dean: Medals Matter
To follow up on the previous post regarding the RNC’s response to the DNC smear of John McCain, which including comments from one of the Democrat gifts that just keeps on giving, we learn through Jake Tapper
That’s all noise. What’s more interesting are the Dean quotes from 2004 that may come back to haunt him this year.
“The real issue is this,” Dean said in March 2004, when endorsing formal rival Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., “Who would you rather have in charge of the defense of the United States of America, a group of people who never served a day overseas in their life, or a guy who served his country honorably and has three Purple Hearts and a Silver Star on the battlefields of Vietnam?”
McCain, by the way, has been awarded the Silver Star, the Legion of Merit, two Bronze Star Medals, a Purple Heart and the Distinguished Flying Cross.
Now, not to rehash old boring news, but John Kerry made his 4 weeks vacation in Vietnam the central focus of his campaign in 2004. Somehow, he forgot to talk about the years he spent as an anti-war activist leader, smearing the troops, all while technically still in the Navy. I guess that part wasn’t seared into Kerry’s brain, like the Christmas he….eh, old news.
McCain is not making his military service, which, of course, includes years spent as a POW of the North Vietnamese, a central focus of his campaign. He is including his life, and what he has done, and has happened to him, during his upcoming tour. I guess it isn’t as exciting to Dean and the DNC as being a poodle to rich women, the next coming of the Messiah, or the wife of a guy who publically cheated on her multiple times publically.
But, I would like to thank Dean for letting us know that medals really do matter. Can I get a scream?

Captain Ed on the demanding of apologies: Instead of demanding apologies and playing the victim, campaigns should respond by highlighting the stupidity of the comment. Don’t ask for an apology; just ask, “What kind of jackass would consider McCain’s military record ‘opportunism’? The head of the party who’s mascot is the jackass!” Pull out every quote in which Dean lauded Kerry’s military record and denigrated George Bush’s military service and ask, “Who’s the opportunist?”
