McCain Reaches Out To Confuse Liberal Blogs

This is actually a brilliant plan: either McCain will gain some converts, or at least liberals who will not go MDS (McCain Derangement Syndrome) on him, or he will just confound them

Sen. John McCain’s presidential campaign is trying to tap a new audience of potential voters by taking his campaign message straight to liberal and nonpolitical issues-based blogs, which reach millions of readers but don’t often delve into conservative politics.

The strategy was in full swing yesterday when Mr. McCain invited non-conservative bloggers to join his regular blogger conference call, just hours after he delivered a major speech previewing his war strategy and other priorities for a first presidential term.

It already has started a war among liberal bloggers over how to react to Mr. McCain’s overture.

I actually think it is wise. Look, there is always going to be disagreement between the left and right, and if we can ratched the seethe-o-meter for the Left back a few notches, perhaps we have actually get something done.

McCain also asks lots of blogs who support him to the conference calls. There was one today at 2pm, which, for the second week in a row, I could not attend due to Real Life.

Anyhow, the election is going to be won by those in the middle who can swing either way, even those who call themselves Democrats and Republicans, instead of liberal or conservative. Senator McCain can’t forget about the conservatives, but, the middle wins or loses the elections.

James Rubin: Lying, inept hack

While I was at TPM earlier reading the Greg Sargent piece on the McCain blogger call, I noticed the Left is pushing yet another blatant lie - that McCain wanted to have a dialogue with Hamas. Haha. As if.

Thankfully, I don’t have to tear that lie apart, because Ed Morrissey has already done it.

The Left has had a field day with an expertly-clipped YouTube excerpt from a John McCain interview in January 2006, shortly after Hamas won the Palestinian Authority election. Former Clinton official James Rubin uses it for a dishonest attack on McCain, calling him a hypocrite for tying Barack Obama to Hamas while McCain supposedly supported diplomatic contact with the terrorist group. In doing so, Rubin and McCain’s opponents misrepresent both the Hamas issue and the larger context of McCain’s remarks.
[…]
The context here is crystal clear. McCain envisioned a possible change in Hamas from a terrorist group to a legitimate political party, one that recognized Israel and renounced violence. Under those conditions, McCain said that we could engage them in talks designed to establish peace, and only under those conditions.

More of the same distortions of the truth (aka lies) from the Lefty Liars, as usual. Nice try, chumps.

I wonder, will they go with this lie during the next blogger call?

Here’s the part they conveniently “forgot.” Notably, so did Obama (biggest liar ever to seek the Presidency, perhaps?)

Time Tries The Whole “Just Wondering About McCain’s Health” Attack Line

Seriously, what Time schedule is Time on? The NY Times and LA Times tried this attack on McCain a bit of Time ago

Headline: How Healthy Is John McCain?

It was the size of a dime and as thick as a nickel—a discolored blotch on John McCain’s left temple. He didn’t pay it much mind during the heat of the 2000 Republican primary campaign. But after losing the nomination to George W. Bush, the Arizona Senator found himself with time to spare. So as Bush celebrated victory, McCain headed to the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., to have the spot checked out.

McCain’s handlers know his age is both a strength and a weakness, one that his campaign is acutely sensitive about. Early this month, aides pounced on Obama’s suggestion in a television interview that McCain was “losing his bearings as he pursues the nomination” by making negative attacks. Within hours, adviser Mark Salter had released a blistering memo saying the comment was a “not particularly clever” knock on McCain’s age. “We have all become familiar with Senator Obama’s new brand of politics,” Salter concluded.

But if McCain intends to make his experience a plus with voters, he must also make sure that his health is at the very least not a negative. And so, after weeks of delay, the McCain campaign plans to deal with the issue later this month, with a release of his medical records and a briefing by his various doctors in Arizona, where he underwent the surgery. Though details are still being firmed up, the campaign says it expects to offer enough documents and medical opinions to lay to rest any concerns about the candidate’s condition. “What you are going to find is that he is in good health,” says Charlie Black, a senior adviser to the campaign.

They’re “just wondering,” ya know.

Senator McCain Gets A Conservative Rating Of 80 From ACU

The American Conservative Union has released it’s 2007 ratings (via Hot Air)

The American Conservative Union (ACU) the nation’s oldest and largest grassroots conservative lobbying organization, has released its 2007 “Rating of Congress.” ACU has rated every member of the House and Senate since 1971 and the ratings are widely regarded as the definitive conservative assessment of the federal legislative branch.

ACU Chairman David A. Keene said it is not surprising that the 2006 election has resulted in Congress taking a sharp leftward turn.

“Elections have consequences and the election of 2006 was no exception,” Keene said. “The overall average score of the House of Representatives fell from 53.1 percent conservative in 2006 to 42.91 percent in 2007 while in the Senate the average score in 2007 was 42.67 percent conservative compared to 49.5 percent in 2006.”

Senator McCain recieved an 80, giving him a lifetime rating of 82.16. Obamessiah? A seven. 21 Democrats in the Senate received a zero, to go along with a huge list of Democrats in the House.

Ed at Hot Air writes

For those who see no difference between McCain and the two Democrats, this serves as a reminder that while McCain drifts to the middle on some issues, a large chasm exists between the nominees that will face off in November.

Some may say that McCain is not conservative enough, however, he is conservative in the core principles, and, let’s face it, in today’s “what is the government going to do for me?” society, it would be tough to get someone elected who isn’t willing to do what is best for the country as a whole.

For me locally, Dole received a 96 and Burr received a 92, which is interesting, since both of them have had their names thrown around as VP picks.

My House rep, Brad Miller, got a perfect zero.

One thing that sticks out is comparing the 2007 ratings for Democrats to their lifetime ratings. For quite a few, their is a downward trend, which shows how far to the Left the Democrats have moved.

McCain Campaign Responds To Newsweek Slur Of Republicans

Newsweek apparently took major shots at Republican in this story, saying basically that Republicans were cheaters, smear artists, and just plain old meanies, while Democrats were lovely, and would use “Republican tactics” when necessary, so, the McCain camp has sent this response

In an email to Newsweek Editor Jon Meacham on Sunday, McCain adviser Mark Salter responded to this week’s cover story.

Dear Jon,

A useful way to read the piece would be to try to imagine you were a Republican reading it. The characterization of Republican presidential campaigns as nothing more than attack machines that use 527s and other means to smear opponents strikes us as pretty offensive. Is that how Ronald Reagan won two terms? Do they really think other Republican presidential candidates were elected because they ran dirtier campaigns than their opponents? Or could it be that they were better candidates or ran better campaigns or maybe more voters agreed with their position on important issues? From the

beginning of their article, Evan Thomas and Richard Wolffe offered a biased implication that Republicans have won elections and will try to win this one simply by tearing down through disreputable means their opponents. You can see why many Republicans and voters and our campaign might take issue with that.

Suggesting that that we can expect a whispering campaign from the McCain campaign or the Republican Party about Senator Obama’s race and the false charge that he is a Muslim is scurrilous. Has John McCain ever campaigned that way? On the contrary, he has on numerous occasions denounced tactics offensive tactics from campaigns, 527s and others, both Democratic and Republican. By the way, which party had more 527 and other independent expenditure ads made on its behalf in 2004? It wasn’t us.

McCain Says He Did Vote For Bush

Sheesh, how did this actually get published at CBS News?

Accused by blogger Arianna Huffington of saying he did not vote for President Bush in 2000, John McCain responded that her assertions were “nonsense.” “I voted, campaigned for, worked as hard as I could for President Bush’s election in 2000 and 2004,” McCain said. “With all due respect, this is hardly worth our time.”

He said the same thing on The Factor. The Washington Post quietly printed the same thing. The left leaning Credentialed Media is really getting desperate.

CQ Politics VP Madness Round 2

CQ Politics has Round 2 of VP Madness up–you’ve got until Monday to get your picks in. Here’s how it looks after Round One:

Can’t say I agree with ALL of those picks, but whatever. ;-)

McCain’s Mom’s Day Video

Nice, eh? Of course, this did cause massive liberal seething. Not that that is unusual, mind you.

John McCain On The Factor

No commentary necessary. Senator McCain does that himself.

PS: listen for the part where McCain says he voted for Dubya in 2000 and 2004, as well as campaigned for Bush. Puts to bed that lie the Huffington Post is spreading around, and the Washington Post and NY Times are buying hook, line, and sinker. Too bad they didn’t listen to the actual man.
