Does the Bush administration have a secret succession order that bypasses Congress?

Suppose the worst happens, and the next terrorist attack hits Washington hard, taking out the president and the vice president. What happens next?

New Yorker writer Jane Mayer’s new book, The Dark Side, opens with a shocker. Apparently sometime in the 1980s, President Ronald Reagan issued a “secret executive order” that in the event of the death of the president and the vice president “established a means of re-creating the executive branch.” Reagan’s order violated the express terms of the Constitution and governing statutes.

Does a similar order exist today? We aren’t told. But we do know that Dick Cheney participated in the secret “doomsday” exercises under the Reagan order, and given his central role at present, it is imperative for Congress to find out.

Sooooooooo. Let me get this straight, because it sure appears to me to be making the argument that Bush and Cheney might have some conspiracy going whereby the off themselves to keep control of the Executive Branch. You have got to read the whole article, not too long, which ends up with

“Emily Hussein Nordling,” her entry now reads.

With her decision, she joined a growing band of supporters of Senator Barack Obama, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, who are expressing solidarity with him by informally adopting his middle name.

I’m sure everyone who is paying attention can come up with their own rememberences of he first three, as well. For behavior control, he now has people taking his middle name as their own. He gets millions of rubes to act as if they are at a tent revival at his speeches. He gets them to write even more petitions, and to unburden their true thoughts at his MyBarack(hussein)Obama.com webpage.

Information Control. What better example is there then the Fight The Smears website? Oh, wait, I got one: the way that all the Obamacons mimick the theme that anything that Obama does not want to discuss is a “distraction from the real issues.”

I’m at the Personal Democracy Forum in New York and during the last session, Tracy Russo (formerly of the Edwards campaign, with me in the photo) got into it with Mark Soohoo of the McCain campaign. Tracy wondered how someone who doesn’t use a computer can be president of the United States.

Mark said that someone doesn’t have to know how to use a computer in order to understand them. Tracy said most emphatically that you do, and that someone who is going to be expected to lead the country through the social, political, economic and communication upheavals that are happening as a result of the changes in computer and online technology very much needs to be able to use one.

If you cannot control the racist, anti-semitic, bigoted, and unhinged content of the websites that have your name on them, how can you be president?

If you forgot to hire competent webmasters to run the websites with your name on them, how can you be president?

They are having meltdowns in Nutroot Land over Obama’s support of the new FISA bill

Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) today announced his support for a sweeping intelligence surveillance law that has been heavily denounced by the liberal activists who have fueled the financial engines of his presidential campaign.

In his most substantive break with the Democratic Party’s base since becoming the presumptive nominee, Obama declared he will support the bill when it comes to a Senate vote, likely next week, despite misgivings about legal provisions for telecommunications corporations that cooperated with the Bush administration’s warrantless surveillance program of suspected terrorists.

Anyone want to bet that, despite his pledged support, he doesn’t actually vote yea on the bill, instead, he will either vote present or not vote at all? That way, he can always change his mind, talk out of both sides of his mouth, and not have to actually take an official stand.

“Given the legitimate threats we face, providing effective intelligence collection tools with appropriate safeguards is too important to delay. So I support the compromise, but do so with a firm pledge that as president, I will carefully monitor the program,” Obama said in a statement hours after the House approved the legislation 293-129.

Yes, because he did a marvelous job in monitoriting Jeremiah Wright, his associations with Bill Ayers, what his wife was saying on the stump, and the filth on his official website’s community pages.

NY Observer - Clinton Bundler on Obama’s Doyle Pick: The Biggest ‘Fuck You’ Ever

A former bundler to Hillary Clinton just called in to tell me that Barack Obama’s selection of Patti Solis Doyle as chief of staff to the campaign’s eventual vice presidential nominee is the “biggest fuck you I have ever seen in politics.”

The bundler said that Clinton loyalists were livid over the pick.

“You don’t hire Patti Solis Doyle for her operational expertise,” said the bundler. “You don’t do that. This is someone who failed dramatically at her job. You only bring her on to fuck someone else.”

Richard Danzig, who served as Navy Secretary under President Clinton and is tipped to become National Security Adviser in an Obama White House, told a major foreign policy conference in Washington that the future of US strategy in the war on terrorism should follow a lesson from the pages of Winnie the Pooh, which can be shortened to: if it is causing you too much pain, try something else.

An alert reader wrote in just a little while ago to let us know about something he’d spotted on Fox News Wednesday afternoon. During a segment discussing conservative attacks against Michelle Obama, the wife of presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama, the network described the former as “Obama’s baby mama.”

They’ve even got screenshots and video. Oooooh!

In full, it says “OUTRAGED LIBERALS: STOP PICKING ON OBAMA’S BABY MAMA!” It was featured in the bottom news scroller.

Well, if Obama and his little America hating mama want to be all hip and fist bump……

If elected president, Democratic White House hopeful Barack Obama said one of the first things he wants to do is ensure the constitutionality of all the laws and executive orders passed while Republican President George W. Bush has been in office.

Those that don’t pass muster will be overturned, he said.

This is nothing more then, as mentioned, pure pandering to the BDS crowd. If Obama cared so much about the constitutionality of our laws, then he should implement Neal Boortz’s idea of putting together a 10th Amendment review committee, who would take 2 years and go through the federal laws, and tell us all the ones that violate the 10th Amendment, then repeal those laws. OF course he won’t, because that would reduce Obama’s power, and that is the last thing any Democrat wants.

My second though when reading the story was “well, where the F have you been during your long, illustrious Senatorial career, Mr. Obama, in standing up to what you apparently perceive as un-constitutional laws?” Rather then pontificate myself, let’s see what commenter kdurham68 wrote

1) As you are and have been a member of the United States Senate for the last four years, I would have expected you would have evaluated any legislation during that time period to insure you were helping to pass only laws which are constitutional. Do you, therefore, only intend to review laws from before you were a member of the Senate for Constitutionality or are those laws enacted since you took office also planned for review? If the former, please explain why you failed to take the time while you were in the Senate to review what your predecessors had done. If the latter, please explain why you were lax in carrying out your duties as a US Senator?

2) Since you have indicated it is your intention, if elected, to meet with your Attorney General to review existing legislation and overturn that which you consider unconstitutional, I must ask you to please identify precisely what power granted by the Constitution to the office of the Presidency allows such a unilateral action on your behalf? The Separation of Powers given by that historic and monumental document does not allow the President to subsume the functions of the courts and the judiciary.

As a sidebar, Obama also says that, in his first 100 days, he will do a few other things, including putting together an exit plan for Iraq. Huh? Mr. Hope and Change, who has bloviated against Operation Iraqi Freedom for years, and knew he was going to run for president, has not plan?
