No, as a conservative I am not against immunity for the telecoms. I understand that no one was hurt, no ones constitutional rights were violated, and that if groups like the ACLU are allowed to sue the telecoms at will, juries will hand out huge rewards, regardless of what the evidence shows, and the companies will be out billions. That means far less money to employee people, develop new products and services, and expand coverage, among others. Go look up what happened to Dow Corning.

The telecoms did nothing wrong. I think you are also confusing what they are accused of. What they did was provided minimum data on phone calls which basically only included phone numbers, which were used to look for patterns of which number was calling other known terrorist owned and know terrorist area phone #'s. That's it. It's not ex post facto, because that type of law is about passing a law that makes past actions criminal. Matter of fact, that is what happened to Tom Delay.

As far as wiretapping goes, it was not wiretapping, per se. They were tapping into the satelites, not going down to the switching center. And, that has nothing to do with the telecoms. Conservatives believe in national security, and this, again, hurt no Americans. Unless some were dealing with Islamic extremists. Why would a warrant be needed to listen to people who are not US citizens? Out Constitution does not give them rights.

Jeremiah Wright is not a distraction. Obama is running his campaign mostly on his character, and Wright goes right to the heart of Obama's shaky and shady character.

Political identification is a part of life. People have certain viewpoints, and we will not all agree. And, yup, you betcha we are sick of the GOP electacritters.

I would've thought "conservatives" would be against the telecom immunity provisions in the FISA bill also. Do you think about this stuff, or can you just not bring yourself to agree with a "liberal" point of view (I hate those terms, conservative and liberal. It puts us onto teams and gives us a "team mentality". i.e. instead of having rational debate about each individual issue, people simply choose to oppose the "other team"...).

The wiretapping was unconstitutional. The door should be open for the telecoms to be sued for being complicit in that illegal activity. Retroactive legislation appears to be unconstitutional: “No bill of attainder or ex post facto Law shall be passed.”. There seems to be debate over whether the telecom immunity clause really is unconstitutional or not - I am not a lawyer so I don't know for sure.

Now, isn't violating the constitution the worst sin a government can make in the eyes of "conservatives"? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought "conservatives" were generally patriotic, opposed legislation that was unconstitutional, opposed to big government, liked to balance the budget, etc etc... now isn't the current administration essentially ignoring all that and going against "conservative" values? Do you really think McCain will be any different?

Also, your comment on the whole Reverend Wright thing. That kind of crap is just a distraction isn't it? The media in this country is absolutely disgusting. Why talk about real issues when you can criticize Cindy McCain's cookie recipes... ?

Politics is forever going to be a joke in this country unless the citizenry simply refuses to accept any more of this garbage. And that means both "sides" of the political spectrum. You can be damned sure progressives are sick and tired of the spineless Democratic party, are conservatives fed up with the GOP?

If people stopped feeling like the belonged to a team, maybe politics would actually improve....
