Has The Surge Worked?
To the chagrin of liberals worldwide, the answer would be “yes.” CNS News: IED-Caused Casualties in Iraq Down 89 Percent Since Surge
Deploying more U.S. troops in Iraq has resulted in a dramatic decline in the number of U.S. troops being killed by improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in that country.
IED-caused casualties have dropped 89 percent since the surge went full force last June, according to a Cybercast News Service database of Iraq casualties.
IED-caused casualties spiked in the early part of last year as the surge began. In January 2007, the U.S. started deploying an additional 30,000 troops to the country. The surge in forces was completed in mid-June.
Hmm, and which candidate was pushing hard for The Surge even before The Surge was announced?
Which one wants to leave Iraq with a fully completed post war mission, and which one wants to leave before the job is done?

No. That’s the biggest fairytale I’ve ever heard.

Yes, it appears the surge has worked. But there are many things that have contributed to progress in Iraq. Some of them are difficult to know without being involved in the politics or culture there. Iraqis needed time to pull things together in a secure environment, and the surge seems to have helped.
I am amazed - even today - at people who want us to simply leave Iraq. They seem to have forgotten the events of just 6 years ago. We can either forget about 9/11 or do something about it. It appears the first choice is gaining momentum and that is disturbing.

Yes it has. I was in Ramadi all year in 2006, and talking to my friends that are out there now, it has been an unbelievable transformation. For the record, I dont know anyone in the military that thought it would actually work when it started, but everyone admits now that it did. Real Army grunts (and company level officers)like us dont just go with the crowd, we know when the results are real and when they aren’t.
