Obama Willing To Meet Ahmadenijad But Not Patraeus?

Obama spokesman Bill Burton, responding to John McCain’s suggestion that both he and Obama take a trip to Iraq in the near future:

“John McCain’s proposal is nothing more than a political stunt, and we don’t need any more ‘Mission Accomplished’ banners or walks through Baghdad markets to know that Iraq’s leaders have not made the political progress that was the stated purpose of the surge. The American people don’t want any more false promises of progress, they deserve a real debate about a war that has overstretched our military, and cost us thousands of lives and hundreds of billions of dollars without making us safer.”

You know what is intriguingly missing from that answer? Any indication that Obama will return to Iraq before Election Day.

He’s probably just too darn busy making gaffe’s.

    McCain was born in Panama!

    According to the constitution’s 14th amendment:
    “persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.”

    To be President according to Article II Clause 5 of the constitution:
    No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

    McCain was not natural born but was naturalized and only natural born citizens are eligible to become President.
    Maybe he was a citizen when the Constitution was adopted?!
    Last time I checked Panama has never been part of the United States!
    Congress can not pass laws saying people born out of the United States are natural born citizens.
    That does not follow the Constitution. It says “people born in the United States!”

    The corrupticans spitting on the Constitution again!

    Can’t pick and choose in the Constitution!
    Could mean the second amendment says nothing about guns!
    I still bear my arms on my body and nobody has tried to infringe on my right to carry them on my body.

    TheConstitution …. you are just regurgitating an old story that didn’t have any legs when the left first put it out there to see if it stuck and. It didn’t have any legs then and it doesn’t now. McCain was born while his parents were deployed with the military. Under the twisted view of the Constitution that you are promoting, no military children would be eligible to run for the presidency.

    Now go see if you can find a real issue to throw at McCain. All the pseudo issues the progressives have come up with so far have not gotten any traction.

    Yeah, why should Obama visit the biggest foreign policy issue of this election and previous elections? I mean, where does this John McCain guy get off suggesting that? It’s not like anything’s changed there in the years since Obama’s last visit, right? It’s not like some kind of new surge strategy was implemented and violence went down, right? It’s not like our terrorist enemies have been taking a beating lately, right? Sheesh, and McCain’s acting like some kind of expert on Iraq - like he has made repeated visits there and pushed for a change in strategy that, by virtually all accounts, is working. The next thing you know, he’s gonna claim to have been a soldier and to know what it’s like to be in combat or something. I mean, the nerve! :mrgreen:

    I might’ve gone on a bit too long there, but what the heck? In all seriousness, what is Obama’s problem? Oh, wait, I already know. As many — I’m sure — have already stated by now, Obama is afraid that he won’t be able to continue denying the surge’s success if he sees it firsthand. If he goes, he’ll be in a predicament either way when he gets back - say the surge failed and risk ticking off McCain into really hammering him; or say the surge succeede and risk ticking off the anti-war crowd supporting him.
