U.N. Condemns Fitna, Still Waiting For Them To Comment On Tibet

So, we have all the violence in Tibet, the crackdowns and human rights offenses by China, yet, not a peep from the United Nations. But a movie sends them into hissy fits

Secretary-General today led a chorus of United Nations condemnation of the Internet broadcast of a video made by the Dutch parliamentarian Geert Wilders, describing it as “offensively anti-Islamic,” while he also called on those upset by the film to remain calm.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson after last night’s airing of the film, entitled Fitna, Mr. Ban said “there is no justification for hate speech or incitement to violence. The right of free expression is not at stake here.

“I acknowledge the efforts of the Dutch Government to stop the broadcast of this film and appeal for calm to those understandably offended by it. Freedom must always be accompanied by social responsibility.”

Hmm, I suppose we could think that Ban Moon-Ki is just a-scared of Islamics running hog wild and creating mayhem, violence, and murder, as they typically do in situations as this. But, more then likely, it is just PC run amock by people whose britches have gotten way too big.

Interestingly, in that final paragraph I excerpted, we have the General Secretary of the United Nations calling for censorship.

Curt at Flopping Aces: No opinion from the SG about the hate speech depicted in the film, guess that will come at a later date…..

The American Thinker: Oddly he was talking about the movie, not the Islamic violence portrayed in it, or that which is feared in response to it. In doing so, Ban places the UN at the head of the Islamic mobs which do indeed put the right of free expression at stake here.

I guess John McCain is right about needing to replace the United Nations.

Howie Dean: Medals Matter

To follow up on the previous post regarding the RNC’s response to the DNC smear of John McCain, which including comments from one of the Democrat gifts that just keeps on giving, we learn through Jake Tapper

That’s all noise. What’s more interesting are the Dean quotes from 2004 that may come back to haunt him this year.

“The real issue is this,” Dean said in March 2004, when endorsing formal rival Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., “Who would you rather have in charge of the defense of the United States of America, a group of people who never served a day overseas in their life, or a guy who served his country honorably and has three Purple Hearts and a Silver Star on the battlefields of Vietnam?”

McCain, by the way, has been awarded the Silver Star, the Legion of Merit, two Bronze Star Medals, a Purple Heart and the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Now, not to rehash old boring news, but John Kerry made his 4 weeks vacation in Vietnam the central focus of his campaign in 2004. Somehow, he forgot to talk about the years he spent as an anti-war activist leader, smearing the troops, all while technically still in the Navy. I guess that part wasn’t seared into Kerry’s brain, like the Christmas he….eh, old news.

McCain is not making his military service, which, of course, includes years spent as a POW of the North Vietnamese, a central focus of his campaign. He is including his life, and what he has done, and has happened to him, during his upcoming tour. I guess it isn’t as exciting to Dean and the DNC as being a poodle to rich women, the next coming of the Messiah, or the wife of a guy who publically cheated on her multiple times publically.

But, I would like to thank Dean for letting us know that medals really do matter. Can I get a scream?

Captain Ed on the demanding of apologies: Instead of demanding apologies and playing the victim, campaigns should respond by highlighting the stupidity of the comment. Don’t ask for an apology; just ask, “What kind of jackass would consider McCain’s military record ‘opportunism’? The head of the party who’s mascot is the jackass!” Pull out every quote in which Dean lauded Kerry’s military record and denigrated George Bush’s military service and ask, “Who’s the opportunist?

The RNC Grows A Pair In Response To DNC Smear Of McCain

In the email

RNC Deputy Chairman Frank Donatelli released the following statement today:

“It is beyond comprehension that Howard Dean would smear John McCain’s character by stating he is a ‘blatant opportunist.’ John McCain served our nation heroically and valiantly and it is absolutely unacceptable that the chairman of the Democratic National Committee would attack Senator McCain for discussing his record with the American people. Dean’s comments are the latest in what has become a troubling pattern where the chairman of the national party has questioned Senator McCain’s character and integrity. Howard Dean owes John McCain an immediate apology and both Senators Clinton and Obama should unequivocally denounce this disgraceful attack.”

DNC Press Release:

After casting aside his image as a so-called “maverick” and morphing into the ultimate Bush Republican in the primaries, John McCain today released a new ad aimed at reintroducing himself to the country. After giving two “major policy speeches” that didn’t include any new policies or proposals, McCain’s new ad gives the American people no idea of what he would do to bring the war in Iraq to a responsible end, address the mortgage crisis confronting American homeowners, or get our economy back on track.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean today issued the following statement on McCain’s ad:

“The American people have been waiting for a president who understands the challenges they face, not another out of touch Bush Republican who promises four more years of the same failed leadership. John McCain can try to reintroduce himself to the country, but he can’t change the fact that he cast aside his principles to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with President Bush for the last seven years. While we honor McCain’s military service, the fact is Americans want a real leader who offers real solutions, not a blatant opportunist who doesn’t understand the economy and is promising to keep our troops in Iraq for 100 years.” (Democratic National Committee, “Dean: New Ad, But No New Ideas From John McCain,” Press Release, 3/28/08)

Non-Partisan Fact Check Groups And Members Of The Media Have Called Democrat Attacks False:

Non-Partisan Factcheck.Org Calls DNC Attacks On 100 Years Comment A “Serious Distortion” And “A Rank Falsehood.” “The DNC’s message portrays McCain as bent on fighting an ‘endless’ war in Iraq . DNC: We can’t afford four more years with a President who fights an endless war in Iraq . … On the war, McCain scoffed at Bush’s call to leave troops in Iraq for 50 years, saying ‘Make it a hundred!’ That of course is a serious distortion of what McCain actually said to a town-hall meeting in New Hampshire back on Jan. 3. …There’s little doubt that McCain is less eager than either Clinton or Obama to bring troops home without further suppression of insurgent attacks. But it’s a rank falsehood for the DNC to accuse McCain of wanting to wage ‘endless war’ based on his support for a presence in Iraq something like the U.S. role in South Korea .” (Factcheck.Org Website, www.factcheck.org, Accessed 3/25/08)

Non-Partisan Politifact.Com Calls Obama Attacks On 100 Years Comment “False.” “Obama twisted McCain’s words in the Cleveland debate. He said, ‘We are bogged down in a war that John McCain now suggests might go on for another 100 years.’ As we explain above, McCain was referring to a peacetime presence, not the war. So we find Obama’s statement False.” (Politifact.Com Website, www.politifact.com, Accessed 3/25/08)

The Washington Post’s Charles Krauthammer: “It’s seldom that you see such a dirty lie.” (Charles Krauthammer, Op-Ed, “‘A Rank Falsehood’,” The Washington Post, 3/28/08)

As Mark Noonan at Blogs For Victory writes

I have to dispute Krauthammer - dirty lies are really all the Democrats have to run on these days. Democrats, on the whole, lie about everything all the time - they lie about what they want to do; they lie about what Republicans do; heck, they even lie about who they are…they aren’t big government, tax and spend liberals….they’re “progressives.

They really do not have anything else but lies and smears, all in an attempt to gain power. For the most part, Democrats, particularly those in office, looking to gain office, or in the national and State parties, do not care about the truth nor protecting the country. They will do anything to gain power.

“A Significant Increase In The Army and Marine Corps”

I listened in on the blogger conference call today and was glad to hear Hugh Hewitt ask about a statement that had been made about an upcoming announcement from John McCain that there will be ‘a significant increase in the Army and Marine Corps’ under his administration. I was so happy to hear that he would build our military back up that I didn’t make the connection that he didn’t mention the Navy. I guess I just made the assumption he meant the military as a whole.

Hugh Hewitt, on the other hand, did make that connection and asked what McCain’s intentions are in terms of the Navy’s involvement in that military increase. I thought the response to that question was interesting.

In the blogger conference call today, McCain Senior Advisor Steve Schmidt outlined next week’s “Service to America” tour. Senator McCain will be making speeches from McCain Field in Mississippi, Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Virginia, Annapolis, Maryland, Jacksonville and Pensacola, Florida. Each stop will underscore some aspect of the senator’s life story, as well as the McCain family’s many-generation commitment to the country’s safety.

At the Jacksonville stop, the GOP nominee will call for a significant increase in the size of the Army and Marine Corps. I asked if the Navy would be part of the call for an expanded military, and Schmidt demurred until the senator speaks next week. It seems to me that a naval power needs more than the 280 ship Navy we are headed for.

Expansion of the military is a crucial issue for the fall campaign. The Jacksonville speech will thus be a very significant milestone in Campaign 2008.

I will look forward to hearing McCain speak on this next week. With his legacy of connections with the Navy I suspect there will be a significant increase in the strength of our military … Navy included. I certainly hope so.

The American President Americans Have Been Waiting For

On Monday John McCain will embark on his Service to America Tour. This tour is an opportunity for McCain to introduce himself to Americans through stops, speeches and interactions throughout America. His speeches will be on a more personal level than we have ever heard from him before.

…. he will introduce himself to the nation through a series of speeches and visits that trace the life of a man indebted to his nation, humbled by the opportunity to serve his country, honored by his family’s love and deeply moved by his fellow Americans’ courage and sacrifice. The tour will highlight the events and figures that shaped his views of right and wrong, forgiveness and grace and the tradition of service and sacrifice ingrained in him from generations of McCains. This “Service to America” tour will fundamentally be about the future of America and the change John McCain will bring as president, informed by the values that have guided his life.

Surrender Monkey Friday: Hills Begs Dems Not To Vote McCain

surrender monkey clinton vote mccain

Surrendie loves when Democrats beg. It makes him feel dirty, and all warm and gushy inside (which is usually a good time to get your umbrella out around monkeys)

Hillary Clinton pleaded for partisan unity on Thursday, urging Democrats not to abandon their party to vote for John McCain if their preferred candidate fails to secure the nomination.

A Gallup poll released this week indicated that 28 percent of Clinton’s supporters would back McCain should the New York senator lose her quest for the Democratic nomination.

That compares to the 19 percent of Obama supporters who say they will favor McCain should Clinton be the party’s nominee.

Heh heh. If Hillary gets the nod, I wonder if there will be lots of suicides by way of gunshot to the back of the head by those who have crossed over and voted for McCain.

This also shows that Clinton, like the rest of Democrats, finds it more important to keep the Dems in power, rather then voting for the best candidate.

Meanwhile, an interesting catch at the DU by taterguy, Hillary Fails NC Values Test

Here’s an excerpt from an actual interview she gave yesterday:

“Q. One last thing: Do you prefer Western North Carolina barbecue or Eastern North Carolina barbecue?

A. (Laughter) I know a question not to answer. I just like barbecue. I’m kind of an equal-opportunity barbecue eater.”

North Carolina is a Mono-Que-ist state. For inexplicable reasons it is unacceptable to enjoy both Eastern and Western barbecue. Saying that you like both is just deviant and wrong according to Que connoisseurs. Don’t ask why. That’s just the way it is. You might as well pray to more than one God in these parts.

Put a fork in her.

She’s done.

I would have loved to go hear the speech, but, Real Life interfered. And, for the record, since she was in Raleigh, the correct answer would be Eastern NC barbecue. And, BTW, when it comes to barbecue, what taterguy wrote is as serious as a heart attack.

Obama Would Only Have Stayed At Trinity For 20 More Years If Wright Had Stayed

OK, that is not really what he said pontificated, but, gee, after 20 years of listening to his mentor and almost uncle, having Wright marry Michelle and him, etc, you know the story, it is a bit hard to believe

White House hopeful Barack Obama suggests he would have left his Chicago church had his longtime pastor, whose fiery anti-American comments about U.S. foreign policy and race relations threatened Obama’s campaign, not stepped down.

“Had the reverend not retired, and had he not acknowledged that what he had said had deeply offended people and were inappropriate and mischaracterized what I believe is the greatness of this country, for all its flaws, then I wouldn’t have felt comfortable staying at the church,” Obama said Thursday during a taping of the ABC talk show, “The View.” The interview will be broadcast Friday.

Quite frankly, it insults the intelligence of the American People to be told that during those 20 years of speeches and sermons, as well as personal conversations with BHO and all the publications that Wright was part of, that BHO new nothing about what Wright was preaching. And since Obama has been running most on hope, change, and his character, this issue with Wright goes directly to Obama’s character, along with his associations with other misfits, such as Weather Underground terrorist William Ayers.

Romney to stump for McCain in Utah

My friend Justin Hart (a Romney supporter from day one) says about Mitt campaigning for John McCain,

He has his eye on the real issue… President Obama or Clinton would be very, very bad.

Governor Romney is a good man, and knows what’s at stake in this election. His support will be crucial–and much appreciated.
